My neighbor has a 1991 JD285 Garden Tractor with a Kawasaki liquid cooled engine. The engine shuts off without warning intermittently. It usually takes about an hour or so before it starts acting up. It will re-start immediately after shutting down. When it shuts down it does not backfire or give any other type of warning.....it simply turns itself off. He took it to the dealer last season and after $900.00 of repairs nothing has changed. He doesn't know what the dealer did as far as repairs and he can not find his work order.
The fuel tank vent is not the problem. When it shuts down the fuel filter is full and there is no vaccum pressure in the fuel tank. The dealer did replace the fuel cap....that much we know. The odd thing is when it re-starts it cranks for a while as if it had run out of fuel.
Thanks in advance for any input.
