I have the above unit that has an electrical connection between the front hitch and the tractor. I have been trying to find out what its' purpose is since the blower operates when it is connected or disconnected. The dealer says it is hooked to a magnetic sensor on the blower which will indicate if the blower is turning or not (if it shears a pin). My question to him was: Where does it show? on the dash? does it kill the engine? That question they could not answer, so I called John Deere and all they could do is refer me back to the dealer. I have read the manuals on the tractor and blower and there is no mention of any electrical connection for blower operation. I would appreciate if anyone has had any experience or insight on this electrical question. Thank you.

It's a sensor to disable the safety circuit that would normally kill the PTO when you back up. If you are mowing for example, the blades stop when you back up unless you hold the PTO knob out when you start to back up. In the case of a snowblower, that isn't necessary (neither is the former), so they have engineered a work around so the experience will suck less.

Arlen,

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately when I go in reverse (with the wires connected) it still kills the PTO/blower. I wish my unit did work like yours( on x748sSE?) since I have some areas near buildings where I have to do multiple back-ups to clear the snow. I plan on pursuing further with JD dealer-may I use your post?

This is so dumb! A sensor to disasble the sensor nobody wants in the first place. Boy, was that thing a bear to gap installed!!

Well, it's better than my old Deere 445 that didn't have an anti-anti reverse sensor. I had to hold up the dumb PTO switch the whole time I was backing up with a snowblower.

*sigh*

:duh:

Something is wrong with yours, James. The front PTO shaft should not disconnect with the front PTO proximity switch installed.

Remember this is a proximity switch that has to be gapped within the air gap in the instructions, or it won't send a signal cancelling the PTO anti-reverse shutoff circuit.

So before you consult with your Dealer, be sure you gap it right. I don't know how sensitive the switch is - can't tell if it is a Hall-effect or magnetic pickup. type.

James,
My X748 doesn't have the front sensor like yours. So I disabled the RIO circuit years ago, and I suggest you do the same to your 1025. You will get rid of 2 useless sensors then, and you will be much happier. Just find the 2 wires that go to the switch that closes when you pull up on your PTO knob, then shove a jumper in the plug, or (as I did), cut the wires and tie them together.
I would like to respond in advance to same few people who will always jump in and attack when we talk about bypassing the RIO interlock....F*** OFF.
