JD1020 quit

I have a jd gas 1020 serial number 79000. It recently stopped while running after about 30 minutes. Would not turn over . I still had power to gauges but starter would not turn. After 5 or 10 minutes it would turn over. It doesn’t have the electric fuel selenoid. I am thinking the 20 amp circuit breaker behind dash tripped and reset. Could it also be a coil going bad when it gets hot. Thanks in advanced for any advice. Also it has a6v coil with a resistor wire. If I replace coil with a Napa IC7 that says no external resistor required should I bypass the resistor wire with another wire or should I use it.
