I am considering a John Deere Z225 zero turn for trimming. I have four acres but I cut most of it with a 60 " finishing mower. The Z225 will be used for trimming in close quarters and some fall leaf pick up. What are the pros and cons of this model. Thank you for any information.

i've owned a JD Z225 going on 3 years now. best lawn mower i've ever owned, as well as being my first z-turn. before i bought the JD i owned several Murray's(all were junk) and one Snapper(boy have they fallen from grace since the good ol days when you couldn't kill one). i use the JD to mow 3 acres and for the price you pay($2,800) it can't be beat! it's the best home owner level z-turn on the market other then the Exmark Quest imho. if i had to give one con about the Z225 i would say that the ride is a little harsh at times due to the smallish rear tires when riding over not so level ground. the cut quality is fantastic, and i also purchased the JD home service that has been worth every penny. the fuel economy is excellent on this mower and the power in thick grass is top notch. i was worried that the 18.5 Briggs and Stratton might be a little underpowered but i was proved wrong. this is honestly the first mower i've had that hasnt given me a single problem in 3 years. all the others i've owned have torn up within 1 year, and kept breaking the same part yearly. if you're thinking of buying one, i would buy from a dealer instead of from Lowes or Home Depot as a dealer will not cover the warranty on one bought from a box store. also may i reccomend getting the at home service as they come out to your house to service it and they sharpen your blades everytime.

I wound up getting the Z425 because of the wider cut and larger tires. I have had it one season and love it thus far. It is almost as much fun as a carnival ride.

+1 on the Z425. I've owned it for a year and a half and like it alot. Mowing time cut in half over my old MTD LT rider (the old MTD has been a good one tho). Now I do donuts to impress the neighbors. :D I like the fact it has the separate Kanzaki pump and dual drive motors as on their commercial models. I also have the power flow bagger system and it does a real good job. It does, however, use up some of that 22HP, so I wouldn't call the ZTR over-powered when using the grass/leaf collection system.
