This is a really weird problem and I suspect a bad or broken earth wire.

As soon as I engage the PTO both the temperature and fuel gauge go full scale.
This also happens when I apply the brake or turn the lights on.
I just realise the one thing they all have in common. A light on the dash turns on when any of the above is turned on.

If I turn the engine off and then turn the ignition key back on then, even though any of the above is turned on, the gauges settle back to the correct value.

One might say "big deal, all still works so don't worry about it" but my main issue is the temperature gauge while mowing. It's sitting over full scale and that's pretty useless. If I do have a temperature issue, I wouldn't know until it's too late.

I can probably solve this issue if I had the electrical drawings for the X595.
Now my question is does anyone have those drawings or has someone seen this problem before and fixed it.

Kind regards,

Frits Schouten.

Those drawings are in the service tech manual which is available from Deere. IMO, they are good to have for such problems like you have.
Would think even in New Zealand through your Deere dealer.

Agree, it is weird and should get it checked out.

I'm pretty sure it's a bad earth and guess what, I've just bought and downloaded TM2158 (X495 and X595 Technical Manual).
No more guesswork but still a bit of detective work for the bad earth :)
Looking at the drawings, just two connections are suspect.

Cheers,
Frits Schouten.

The two suspect connection were not the problem but it was related.
One of the suspect connections provided earth to the display console but obviously the earth was bad.
The reason why the gauges on the console were still working when the lights were off was because back through the plus side of the console 'back light' bulbs it was getting enough earth to make everything working.
But with the lights turned on, there was no return earth available.
There was enough of an earth though all indicator lights to make the console work.

My last option was to pull the console out and check for broken tracks on the PCB.
And there it was. A cold solder joint and well and truly broken.

I re-soldered all pins on the connector just to make sure this was not going to happen again.

Frits.

Good to hear you tracked it down.. awesome! and thanks for letting us know what, and how, you did it.

Oh and I forgot to say. The $12 spent on the manual was well worth it.

Chreers,
Frits.

Good detective work there. I'm guessing that this is not the first time you looked at circuit boards.

Well done !

In my younger years I was an electronics engineer in the Royal Dutch Navy :)
