I need your input on these two garden tractors for a 2 acre yard that is both bumpy and hilly. Our last lawn tractor failed us because of transmission issues thus our interest in these two models with locking differentials. The JD with power bagger comes in at $6450 and the Husky at $4250 with Husky's bagger with blower. These are net numbers with discounts from JD and a local home show discount this weekend.

We will likely move from the property in about two years. So while either of these mowers should be fine during this time, we are also looking at resale. Will we get $2,200 more for the John Deere?

Thoughts suggestions?

TIA

Pat

John Deere will have a better resale value. But for only two years the 300 series would be fine too and less money tied up in it. Good Luck

The 300 series JD does not offer a model with locking differential....only the 500 series from my research.

IMHO,the john deere.I feel they are better made product verses the Husqvarna.Higher resale on the JD also.Pic of my 2011 JD X740 diesel with 60 inch 7 iron deck.

Now that's a mowing Machine. That platform has tons of capability. If I didn't need a loader that's exactly what I wanted. You'll have it for plenty of years.

As for my 300 series recommendation it's only an opinion. I was just was trying to think of an option that would do you well for 2 years and have better resale than the Husky imho. :). Good Luck

While I have two of the best JD garden tractors and have been very satisfied with their abilities I would go the cheaper route for a two year use plan. Less money spent is almost always easier to recover from.

Original Poster here and thought I would provide an update. I spent some time with the Husky dealer yesterday and was lucky enough to have the regional Husky rep there that obviously knew his products even though the dealer salesperson did not. I followed up today with a visit to the local Home and Garden Show to visit with the John Deere dealer. I looked at both the X380 and the X570 and decided to go with the X380 based upon the advice of the salesperson.

While the transmission spec of the 380 is a notch below the Husky I felt that the dealer would better stand behind my purchase. He indicated if within 30 days I didnt feel that the X380 would not get the job done, I could return it or upgrade to the X570. So I did not have to over purchase.

I am pretty excited as is my wife on the purchase as we have a Kubota B7610 but have never had a JD lawn/garden tractor.

Enjoy, good to hear you followed up. Can you post pics of the property of the cut quality later this Spring and how you like it. Donnie

Will do. I also ended up getting the blower/catcher unit which brought the total to $4,700. I think when we end up selling the property, the JD will indeed give me a higher percentage of money back even though the price tag is more than the Husqvarna.
