Tractor
john deere x500
I am in the market for a new ride on tractor, I want something that can cut grass assist with the leaves, and either plow snow or a snowthrower attachment. I have read good reviews of the jdx500 mower on line but I am weary of such an investment without being sure it is the right mower. The catch is I have about 1 acre and it is hilly and sloped at parts my driveway is also on a hill the jd salesman says no problem with that mower. I wondered if their is anybody with a similar situation as mine, and help me make the correct decision. Thanks

Get a X500 series mower, there are many to pick from, you will love it.

You don't think I will have a problem with my yard conditions? That is good news,I know deere markets these as an all terrain mowers with a locking differential for extra traction. Thanks for your input.

I have 3+ acres of a hilly yard plus a 75 ft driveway with a hill and my x540 has zero problems with anything I ask it to do. I burned up the transmission in my L120, as many have. The trannies in the 500 series are very tough and serviceable.

The 500s are garden tractors.

Btw, I know its approx $2500 to step up to the 540 but the power lift and steering are awesome. I will never go without again. And I never thought I would say that.

All X500 select series has this."Hydrostatic transaxle has traction assist... "

I mow something over 3 acres with obstacles, and some short, but fairly steep hils, and quite a bit of snow sometimes in the winter. I am thinking about the X500 series too though they are smaller than my Simplicity Legacy. I have a larger tractor now with a loader for the heavy stuff on my 13 acres, but really need a fairly heavy duty mower too. Good luck with your shopping, and purchase, and keep us posted on how things are going with those things. I've been looking mostly at the X530, but have debated the X534, and X540 too.

Thank you for the response I will take your advice and did you use the plow attachment or the snow thrower?

I have the plow and man can it push some snow. In fact the unit as a whole is so much stronger and heavier than the old 120 that the first time I used it I dug up huge pieces of sod next to my driveway.

The blower looks awesome. There are a couple of vids out on YouTube.

Thank you for the info I was leaning more towards the plow over the blower, but the videos on YouTube are convincing I will price it out and see, as well as possibly stepping up to the x540.

Spent yesterday at the jd showroom wow these seem like powerful machines when I mentioned the x540 to the salesman, he showed me one then showed me the x728se that thing is a beast 4x4 and a hydraulic bucket, I am getting confused I need to get what I need not what I want. Seems as though that could be difficult.
