I have been looking at a JD X595 with a FEL. This tractor has a single range transmission and I was concerned that without a low range there might be some using the FEL. Has anyone had experience with this?

With my own Experience and the experiences I have read about on TBN, I think in the long run you will be much happier, if you move up to the 2210 tractor. The 2210 will not cost that much more, but you will get much more. Also the resale & trade in value will be so much higher. The 2210 is cut and not a garden tractor. Go with the 2210. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have only seen an X595 in the dealers show room. I did own a 455 before I bought a 2210. The speed range of the 455 was about the same as low range on the 2210.

Welcome to the forum.
The advice given to step to the 2210 is very good, especially if the FEL is important to you. Not that the X595 isn't a solid outfit, but even the Deere sales people I know have a difficult time marketing the two together. I understand the price might even be in favor of the 2210. You get the ROPS with the 2210, but not the X595. That may or may not be important to you. If the range gear is important, then the 2210 is a clear choice, I would think.

IMHO the reasons for the X-series to get the nod are:
1) Size: Will it fit in your shed or garage?
2) ROPS: Will it clear your landscaping (not that this is a bad thing, as it is easy to widen mulch beds etc and may be a fun first project for the new tractor!
3) Weight: The 2210 isn't that heavy, but conceivably in certain situations the X may be a better weight.

IMHO the reasons to pic the 2210:
1) Size: The extra size over the X will make it easier to attach/detach attachments (not that the X is difficult, it's just that the 2210 is easier).
2) ROPS: It could save your keister!
3) Weight: Keeping all that power to the ground requires heft.
4) Loader: The capacity and weight handling are greater. I understand cycle times are quicker too (they certainly were when compared to the loader on the 4XX series).
5) 3PH: The 2210 has greater capacities here too, also this, and along with the rear PTO can get expensive on the X, and you would only get Cat "0" capabilities.
6) Resale: IMHO the sub-CUT will carry better resale values due to the market's preferences toward CUT's.

Why don't you look at and try out both? There may be just one feature or ergonomic that makes the difference for you.

BTW, if you go with the 2210, I highly recommend the 62" MMM. It will give you a better overlap and will yield an uncut circle of only 36" which makes the 2210 quite a bit more maneuverable than you would expect from a tractor of that size.

Happy hunting! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I am a new member to the forum and can help also with your question. One of the reasons for my trading the X595 I owned was primarily due to its marginal loader performance. The single range transmission and valving of the hydraulic system did not allow for good loader performance. The 45 loader found on the X series tractors is heavily built, but the tractor simply would not lift very much weight. The cycle times with the two lever system (v. the joystick) were very slow. One also cannot use two attachments simultaneously, for example the loader and rear mounted BB. I concur that the 2210 is a better option in this case. This is a shame, because the x595 is a powerful and VERY nice machine, which in many ways has advantages over the 2210. I do believe, unless one is mainly moving light density material such as mulch, etc. the 2210 is the better choice.

I would also recommend the 2210 if buying new, even though I have a X585/FEL. I even attemped to trade in the X for a 2210 but the depreciation was too big a hit in the pocket book.
It also depends what you want to do with it. I believe the center of gravity is a little lower than the 2210 making it more stable for mowing hills. I added a toothbar and have been using the bucket to dig. Recently helped a neighbor dig a hole for a leaking water pipe that was 4'X3' hole about 3'deep. What a back saver. They are right about the 3 pt. being tied to the bucket operations as I recently found out but the hitch is cat 1 with limited height and limited capacity. They are very nice and rugged machines as I have put mine though it's paces. I do like not having a ROPS to worry about hanging up on the shed and trees as long as I don't roll over that is. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

CT,
I own an X595 and a 4310. I had a 45 loader on the 595 and quickly traded it in when I bought the 4310. As many of the other posters mentioned, the loader is weak. Basically all you will be able to do with it is mulch and manure -- it just can't lift much more than a couple hundred pounds. In fact, if you bury the bucket into a pile of bark mulch, you will not be able to lift it without backing out. The machine with the loader is great for getting into small landscaping areas or cleaning stalls due to its small size and weight -- doesn't damage turf areas and is very maneuverable It is an excellent mower and will do a nicer manicure job than a 2210 because that is basically what it is -- an overgrown sit-down mower with limited hydraulic capability. Attach an MC519 collector and you can hold a lot of clippings and leaves. I also use mine for snowblowing and with a cab on the unit, it does a really fine job. Great for driveways that can't be push-plowed, wide sidewalks in condo complexes, etc. If you need a machine primarily for FEL work, get the 2210 or bigger. And I love my X595!

First I want to say thanks to all who have replied to my first post. From what I've seen the 2210 gives more bang for the buck. The only reason that I'm considering the X595 is that the primary job will be mowing our "lawn", which is about anything that resembles grass and is a rather irregular shape carved out of the woods. The ability to get around sheds and under trees makes the 595 appealing. However, there are always those odd jobs that pop up where a loader and blade would save the back and countless hours. Things such as blading the driveway, plowing snow, dragging a log, removing a stump, filling holes, etc. I know that the 2210 would be more than a match for any jobs I would have, but would be harder to mow with. My biggest question is if the 595 would be up to the task. Now that I've better defined my needs what does anyone think. BTW, my suggestion of buying both was met with something less than enthusiasm.
