John Deere has closed the deal on their acquisition of a chinese tractor manufacturer. This might not be welcome news if you're a real JD fan, but it could be good news if your a chinese tractor fan.

Speaking as a chinese tractor owner, I wish it could have happened sooner. I'm drawn to the value proposition that better chinese tractors offer, specifically cost effective, simple machines with minimal bells and whistles. But I've always been concerned about the quality issues that seem to come part and parcel with a lot of chinese manufacturing.

Call me an optimist, but here's to hoping that JD will put some good old American quality control into their new chinese operation and start turning out products that that are worthy of the JD name.

Yeah, You can get high quality things from China. Typically, the off shore owner of the product has to spec and even supply the sub components.

For those that think all things have the same quality, I got a China bench vice. The casting was so nasty rough they coated it with up to 1/4" of body putty. Try banging a hammer on that once! The replacement has less filler at 1/8" or so. HF - replaces them until you quit coming back.

I hope JD will provide more "Quality Control" and the subcomponents more than Mattel. Jay

PS: Including the green paint! ;)

What am I missing here. I read the article and it said Deere had been there since '97. Making tractors for the Chinese and Asian markets, Not exporting to US. I don't see this ever affecting the current crop of export tractors to the US in anyway. Disclaimer here: I own for five years a JM354 Jinma and am very satisfied with it. I'm conserned that any Americanizing will just take away from the simplicity of these current Jinma tractors AKA more bells and whistles and Fit'N'Finish stuff, see also, higher prices. bjr

China is a major market for Buick products, too. They may well sell more cars there than they do here. It's a major enough player in the Chinese market that they have models we can't get here, sometimes further upmarket.

We need more U.S. to China sales to get some of our money back!

From what I can see around these parts you must have to be over 65 to buy a Buick.

Two years ago I bought a new Kubota tractor, at the same time my accountant purchased a Chinese tractor. I have had two years of trouble free use of my Kubota, he has spent two years waiting for parts, and had very little use of his, (I hate to call it a tractor) Jinma. I have a neighbor who sold these for a short period of time. Very poor craftmanship, looke like someone went to the local hardware store and got some of the parts.

I stock parts and Tommy at Home of compact Jinma, Foton, and Koyker Tractors and Parts, Wood Chippers, Backhoes - Affordable Tractor Sales Company has a VERY LARGE parts inventory for the Jinma's. You may want to tell your accountant.??

These Jinma tractors must have a good prep before they are put to work.
