LT155
I have a great little LT155, runs great, new belts and rear tires. I was planning on a few more years. Suddenly slippage in the trans. Won't go up a mild hill any more. I can't afford a new tranny @ $700 plus. Any one have any ideas for parts kits to economically rebuild this little gem???? Help!!
Thanks, Harold, ellerhm@gmail.com

I have a complete working trans located in Huntingtown, Md that I would sell you really cheap just to move out of my shop. Was removed from a running driving lt155 because motor went up. Pm me if you want more info.

Are you sure the traction belt isn't slipping? I doubt it's the transmissi Ok n it could be but if you just put new belts on it maybe it isn't on quite right or a spring is wore out.

Thanks, I will certainly check out the spring. I can probablt modify/tighten the spring enough to see if it changes slippage. Thanks, Ellerington

Yellowfever, update on my LT155. Upon further exam I discovered the drive pulley was severely worn. I bit the bullet and replaced the double drive pulley ($82 JD) thinking this would surely make a difference. NOT, still the same. After spending more time underneath, it appears the belt is quite loose in the neutral position. It is like the OEM JD belt is about 1/2-1" too long. It can't possibly tighten up. The compression brake spring bottoms out (completely compressed) Everything seems to be assembled correctly. The long tension spring which should tighten the belt seems ok. Very strong but the bottomed out compression spring won't allow the belt to adequately tighten up.

I am completely baffled. My next plan is to lengthen, by about 1/4", one of the ends on the brake compression spring hook ends. It appears to me this would allow the belt tightener spring enough freedom to tighten the belt. My preference would be a new belt that is about 1" shorter.

Sorry to be so long here. JD wants $37.50 just to look at it, 6 weeks out!! Would appreciate any thoughts anyone has on this problem. I mow a lot of farm road shoulder and ditches. I bought a new Cub Cadet last year. I hate it, wished I had stayed with JD. I have a 5205 JD for serious field and pasture mowing. Too big and damaging for some of my ditches and road shoulders.

Thanks for any help, Harold

I would think maybe check and make sure the belt is right for the serial nunber.

Did you ever get this issue sorted? I see you are still working this machine but now having a cutting-out problem. I just wondered what the solution to this problem was 3 yrs ago?
The trans belt tensioner plate can seize on the pivot bolt. You shouldn't have had to 're-engineer' a perfectly good system, designed by JD, by fitting a non-standard belt or shortening/lengthening springs etc. It was working fine as it is. So I'm just curious as to the solution ?
