We bought a JD Deere Gator about a month ago and believe it of not, a trailer hitch is not standard equipment. They have 2 different hitch styles available. One is a tab type hitch that bolts on with 2 bolts. I think it is $20 or so. The other is a receiver hitch that bolts on with 4 bolts for $55. Here is my copy of Deere's $55 but I opted to go with 6 bolts instead of 4. The female part of the hitch came from Tractor Supply and cost me $11.99. The male part of the hitch was $19.99 but I don't think John Deere includes it in their hitch package either.

The hitch comes with both parts from JD. The ball is not included though but the actual hitch is.

The one we built uses a 2 inch receiver tube. I keep two hitches;
one with a ball for moving the big trailer (7X10) and one
without a ball for the smaller garden trailer that uses a drop
pin. The Gator is very handy for moving the trailer around
without trying to manuver the truck to get it.

That looks good. I solved the problem of the garden trailer having a different hitch. I put a coupler on the garden cart and I will probably put one on my lawn sweeper as well. No more hunting for that pin and it is quicker.

What kind of coupler did you use on your garden cart? Where did you get it?
Thanks,

I think I bought my coupler at Tractor Supply. I believe that Wal Mart also sells them. They are $15 or less depending on where you buy them. you can bolt them on or weld them. I will see if I have a picture of one or I can take one later.

Thanks, I'll check them out next time I am in town.

I definetly agree with the no hitch pin thing. I got a pin with a handle that was grade 8 from home depot and made a bracket to mount it to the back of my jd165. The pin goes through to brackets that house a spring that puts tension on the pin to go back down. I can simply back up to my dump cart and pull up on the pin and slide the trailer on and go. Can release the trailer the same way while coasting slowly without getting off. No pins to lose and has fit every attachment I have so far. I thought about the ball hitch but don't have a large trailer yet(soon). Both of your modifications look very clean... Pride, it's a beautiful thing!
