Was thinking of getting an ATV to pull around our garden cart, drag for leveling dirt and a lawn roller before seeding. Stopped in to a JD dealer and saw the Gator CX & CS series UTV. The wife and I both liked the layout and the price most of all. I know they are an entry level UTV but do they compare to an ATV with the same motor CC's? The ATV's I have looked at have the same pulling capacity. Don't need anything real powerful or with all the bells and whistles.

Does anyone own one and what is your thought on the C series Gators.

Thanks

With the drag for leveling dirt and the lawn roller I would be concerned about over heating the motor with prolonged use. But with short jobs and cool weather I think you would be okay.

why not just go with the atv. that way you can do a little playin after.you could probaly pickup a really nice used 4x4 atv for the price of a new cx gator

Take a look at the Polaris ATP. It is a regular ATV but instead of the rear fenders and rack it has a small dump bed. I think for the size of the Gator CS and CX, you would get more versitility out of an ATV. Now if you were looking at something bigger than the CS/CX it would be different. Have you looked at some of the Golf Cart conversions with ATV tires and dump bed?

We finally made the jump. LOL We bought a 2006 Honda FourTrax Rancher ES at the boat show here a couple weeks ago. Are all of you sure it's legal to have this much fun on a quad... :D 3rd day I had it I went riding with a neighbor/friend on the trails around the lake here for about 4 hours. BIG mistake!!! The next day I was so sore I couldn't hardly get out of bed. My hair even hurt LOL

I know this is water under the bridge but for what its worth I got the CX Gator when it first came out. It was an excellent machine and I had zero problems with it. It was excellent for yard work or going between buildings or property on paved, grass or semi-paved surfaces. It started good, accelerated well, steered easy and was very manuverable.

The drawbacks, it only went 15 mph, had no rear suspension, 2 wheel drive and light duty tires. It would pull a lawn roller, harrow, cart, etc. It actually pulled really good. I farm also and used it to pull a 20 foot combine head on the head carrier which weighed in the 2000 pound range.

I traded it off after about a year and a half for a heavy duty 4x4 Gator because I wanted the speed, suspension, 4x4, bigger tires and be able to take it in the field. I traded that 2005 Gator in on a 2006 Gator because they made some improvements. I plan on trading that in on the 2007 Gator (when they come out in March) because of more improvements. That will be 4 new Gators in the past 4 years.

Back to the CX, it is an excellent machine for the intended purpose and that would be mostly yard work and light hauling.

Tommy, I like the ATV idea as well. That was what I did a few years ago. THe only problem with the ATVs for yard work is that the rear axle is locked, there is no differential, so they have a tendancy to scuff or tear the turf when you turn. It can be minimized by being careful and keeping the speed down. I'm pretty sure the gator's axle is not solid which should be easier on the turf.

Randy,

Congrats on your purchase.

You went to a Boat Show and bought a ATV...I went to a RV show and spent more time looking at the Kaw Trans Mule:confused:

When I get ready to upgrade my tractor I'll go to a car show:D
