Why are JD rates so non-competitive? Will this change in March? I plan on buying in the next 6-12 months and I want to go green, but I can get better financing and lower payments with blue or orange. Is JD just doing that much better?

What kind of rates are you getting from JD, blue, etc?

Just picked this off of the NH pricing forum:

I agree: is JD business really great that they can afford to charge higher
rates?

I, too, am waiting for the rates to drop down to something competitive
with the competition before trading up from a 4115 to a 3520.

Good luck,

Well, I haven't looked at the NH site yet, but the JD offer is here (JD OFFERS) and includes 0% for 24 months as well as a variety of other options.

I just bought a JD 4520 at 0%, 36 months (in Canada). The dealer said that this rate was in effect for the whole 'TWENTY' series, until the end of February.

24 months at zero percent in the States.
NH is offering 4.9 for 72/84 months; 3.9 for 60; and I forget the
others - it's in my earlier post.

Deere's is 8.9% for 48 or 60 - forget which.

So, I'm sitting on the fence waiting to trade up from my 4115
to a 3520...in reality, kinda stupid, but it's
money and my money-tree seems not to be bearing
fruit; so, I have to work for a living.

I even started looking at NH's (yeah, I know - a pox on me!).
I do like that swivel-seat - great when backing up - wish Deere would
offer one.

ALSO, wish they'd offer the 7-IRON II deck on the 3000 series.

I don't have my "tractor folder" with me, but the longer term rates (60-84months) offered by Kubota and NH were 1-2 points lower than JD. Also, K and NH offered 36/0% and JD would only go 24/0%. With interest rates rising, I'm not sure if it's going to get any better come spring. Do these guys traditionally offer good financing when the season starts?

I think those are great rates for a tractor. K and NH likely feel the need to one up Deere on the rates so they can shine in some way, but the difference wouldn't be enough to get me to buy k or nh and Deere knows it. And yes, the rates are more likely to go up than down IMO.

It looks to me like the rates are somewhat competitive. If you wait until spring and IF JD matches or lowers their rates, and that's a big IF, you may be trying to buy at a time of year when the dealer(s) are less inclined to negotiate price - like in the spring and early summer when they can sell at closer to list price. So you've saved a 1-2pts in interest but have paid (perhaps) 100's more because of seasonal sell price fluctuations.

When I bought my 4110 in Dec '04 the rate was at 1.9% - for the amount I borrowed it's only $3 a month in finance charges (x 36 months) - it amounts to one extra payment. Your dealer should be able to get you a printout from JD of what your actual interest costs will be for the amount you want borrow and the length of the note. You might be surprised by the actual dollar cost.
