JD FD 935 Mower Deck will engage but lever will not stay forward.

After stopping for a break when I went to restart the PTO lever will not stay forward. If you hold it in the forward position the mower deck will engage. Belts look good.

Any ideas.

Try releasing the parking brake ball rod. Mine does the same thing and frequently baffles me until I put my memory foam in my hat.

In addition to what zz suggests, go through the checkdown procedure in the manual, so something isn't "engaged" or a lever in the right position to get the PTO to remain engaged.
Seems there is a magnet to hold the PTO lever, and may not be energized by default, or failure.
May be a way to isolate it to see.

Thanks for your help folks. After checking all connections and ensuring all switches were functional I blasted under the dash, where I assume the actual magnetic lock is located, there was a lot of grass and debris under there and no obvious other way to get it out. Once that was cleared away all worked well.
