JD F1145 Front Mower w/ 72" deck - Gearbox Disassembly Information

Hi everyone. I finally became a member. Thanks for all of the great information.

I need to rebuild the gearbox for the 72"deck on my JD F1145. Does anyone have any advice on how to dissemble the gearbox? In particular, the 2" nut at end of the shaft where the spindle/pulley mounts to the deck and then the blade. Is the end of the shaft threaded or is the pulley/spindle pressed on? I've tried a big wrench and heat and can't get it to budge.

to many variations there, to choose from. but you should be able to tract down what ya looking at, to see a diagram of what goes were.

I already viewed everything from the JD site. It does not tell me if the 2" flange nut is left or right threads. I cannot get it to move either way. I was thinking that maybe it was pressed on. I guess I'll borrow a 2 inch impact wrench and see what happens. It's got to come apart somehow.

My 72" deck repair manual says to "hold the shaft in a soft jaw vise and remove the nut". I would judge this to mean its a right handed thread. It has been treated with Loc-Tite, though, so you might need to heat it up to loosen it. You are supposed to use Loc-Tite when you put it all back together, too.

Would you post a pic of the parts breakdown that shows the nut you are referring to in the OP?
Or give the part number of the nut causing the problem (pic would be better).

At the bottom of 41 in the diagram is a 2" nut that may or may not be part of the hub itself. Someone before me has done some work in this area and may have modified the deck. I'll take some actual pics when I get back to the shop on Monday. Thanks again for all of the input. I'll be sure to use Loc-Tite when I put everything back together. Just gotta get this thing apart first.

I am trying to remove the hub (2nd and 3rd picture) from the output shaft. A blade also bolts to the end of the output shaft. I have tried heat and a big wrench with no luck. Is the hub threaded or pressed on?

The pulley #20 in the picture just rusted out on my f1145 and belt came off. Had to remove that 2 inch nut to get to the pulley. I followed the manual and gripped input shaft in vice with copper jaws and used 18 volt Milwaukee impact wrench and nut came off easily. Used a 3 jaw puller to pull hub off and one of the bearing fell apart. Ordered new pulley, bearings and seals. I believe my gear box was okay so didn't take it apart but will change gear lube while its
off the mower. Thread was right hand.
