I hope this is the right forum for this.. I wasn't sure between this and owning/operating one...

I just got a card saying my 4300 warranty was about to expire, and offering either a $220 plan or a $280 plan for an additional two years of warranty. The more expensive plan doesn't require a $25 co-pay and takes $25 off the pickup/delivery costs.

I'll call them Monday to get details, but I wondered if anyone here has bought this plan?

One question my wife asked was, is the $25 co-pay for every single part they might need for a given repair, or just for the overall job?

What have you folks done, if it isn't too nosy a question??

Thanks much,
Bob

Hi, Bob.

In my opinion, there's only two reasons to buy an extended warranty. The first is if you have been experiencing any indications that your major systems are showing wear or having problems. The second is if you intend to sell the tractor on the open market in the next 1 1/2 years. It will always give a potential buyer more comfort knowing that the manufacturer is still backing the machine.

Your warranty price seems cheap. It could be that it's a low risk model which would indicate to me that the insurance company feels comfortable with the risk of insuring the serviceability of your tractor. Remember that an extended warranty is a "Bet" placed by the insurance company that your tractor will not need repair. They are asking you to place a $220 "Bet" that something major will happen. If your tranny blows, or something like that, you win the bet and they eat the cost of repair less your deductable. The low premium just indicates that there have not been many statistical problems with your model in the third and fourth year of service.

BTW, the deductable is probably per occurance and the towing costs are relevant to your ability to transport the tractor. If you can borrow a trailer, don't waste your money. my dealer will let me use his at no cost but will charge $100 round trip if he has to send someone. Give your dealer a call.

Hi Pete,

You know, I don't think I've ever purchased an extended warranty that I didn't regret having purchased! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

The machine is running fine.. and I have no plans to sell it any time soon.

Thanks for the nudge.. I believe you're right.

Best,
Bob

I've had the same experience as you, Bob. Insurance if great if you have to use it, but the only things I've ever bought an extended warranty on in my life have been two automobiles, and it was money wasted in both of those cases. I'll probably never buy another extended warranty on anything myself, but I'm not going to tell anyone else not to, since if they failed to buy it based on my recommendation, their product would probably fall apart next week./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif
