John Deere 2520 with 200CX loader, x320
I will retire soon and am planning on purchasing a new tractor for my 6-acre spread - 4 acres of sloping, rough mowing. I did my home work and decided I really liked the JD 2520. I went to my local JD dealer to see a 2520 and talk about it with the dealer. He informed me he nor any other dealer he knew of stocked the 2000 series. He said folks were buying the 1 Series or the 3000 series. I've looked at both and prefer the 2520. Will my choice of tractors still be in the line when I'm ready this winter? Is my choice not good compared to the 1026R or the 3032E? I'm planning to keep my x320 for use around the house.

:welcome: TO TBN samsanders

That is pretty odd that the dealers around your area aren't/won't carry the 2000 series. There is a decent price difference between the 2 and 3000 series, not to mention the size difference void,by not carrying the 2000 series. IMO,that isn't very good marketing. Wonder how corporate would feel about that. I found the 1 Series (2305 at the time) too small, and the 3000 series too large when I was tractor shopping. The 2000 series was just right for me,and I would think alot of people (like you) find it (2000) just the right size.
I would search around for a dealer that would accomodate me.:)

I figured the 2520's were one of the most popular tractors. There seems to be more post for them than any other. The 1 series is starting to take off now though. I'd think they'd push the 2000 series before they would the 3000. My dealer had my tractor on the lot, just had to wait on the deck cause I wanted the 72 instead of the 62.

My dealer carries them, as well as the 1000 and 3000 series. I agree that the 2000 series is really a good size for many people, and it's also the first "honest" compact tractor in the lineup -- the 1000 series is definitely a sub-compact, and not enough of a tractor for many people and uses. So it seems odd to me that of all the tractors they skip, it's the 2000 series.

I'd suggest looking around for another dealer! Also can't hurt to look at some other brands if you have time -- there are a lot of options in the same size range as the Deere 2000 series. I am a longtime Deere customer, but when it came time to get a 2000 series sized tractor last December, I ended up with a Kubota B2920. Just worked out better for me this time around.

I bought a new JD 2320 in late summer 2011. No problem finding a 2000 series and I agree with "glc24", something sounds funny with that dealer. I think you would be happy with the 2520 model, it's got more hydralic power than the 2320. I chose the 2320 because of it's size, I need a tractor that can get into tight places and I've found it to be everything I want, I really like this model. I did a lot of looking at the 1026r model and I am sure some would be happy with it, however, I like the overall features of the 2320 or 2520 or even the 2720 model, there's more steel for one thing. My personal feeling is that if I am having issues with a certain dealer and I buy from him anyway, what problems will I have when it comes time for repair?

My dealer handles mostly ag size tractors and very few small compacts. I wouldn't be too concerned about service issues just because he doesn't stock the 2x20 series. I would think the stock the dealer carries on his floorplan will vary considerably from one locale to another. If you have already decided on the 2520 I would see what kind of price and delivery you can get and would expect about 15% off msrp.

Not really surprising...dealers will stock what they can sell.
His stock may reflect the demographics in your area...and I'd wager there's a mix of small (<3 acres) properties that account for the 1xxx series sales and larger (8-10 acres or more) properties accounting for the 3xxx series sales. Just not enough medium sized (3-5 acres) to justify stocking the tractors that fit them the best, the 2000 series,
Pure supposition on my part, but if you asked the dealer why he focuses on the SCUT and mid sized CUTs, I think his answer would be similar to mine in the preceding paragraph.

I think the 2520 is a very capable machine. However depending on the use, it can be a bit lite. 5 foot brush hog, makes it a bit lite.

It would help if you would elaborate on expected uses if you want some opinions on other tractor sizes.

I have a 2320, I think you'll love your 2520. Remember when your talking to your "dealer" your actually only talking to a "salesman" who probably drive drives to work in a geo metro. Not all salespeople are useless but many are. I have dealer close by with poor sales department (arrogant, not knowledgeable, over priced) so I bought 40 miles away. But the parts department of the closer dealer has been reasonable to deal with.
