HI could you all help me a little with choosing the right tractor please?

I have been researching the purchase of a tractor for some time on the internet and tractorbynet.com website. I was hoping to pick your brain and get some input, advise, pricing from you if you had a moment.

I just bought my home on 21 acres in Hampshire county WV, the ground is mostly wooded and sloping to steep with a little flat around the house. I have a 1 mile long private non-county maintainted dirt road/old access road that leads to me driveway that is 800-1000 feet of gravel. I am looking for something that will help maintain the roads, gravel work, snow removal, dirt and rock moving to landscape some, and able to pull downed trees for firewood to a area for cutting and splitting. I currently don't have enough grass to worry about that i can cut with a riding mower, but think I might want this option open to me in the future should I move again.

I was hoping you might have some advise as to size requirements that would be a good fit.

Here is what i have come up with for the tractor part am I in the ball park?

Grand L3940HST-3 4x4 with the HST PLus and Intellipanel
Front End Loader LA724 (would prefer the LA854 but not sure will fit the L3940) (possibly adding 3rd function valve)
72" Heavy Duty Bucket with 2 lever quick coupler
Fluid in rear tires (rimguard or something simlar?)
Hood Guard
R4 tires
1 Rear remote valve
Front and Rear Work Lights
Mid PTO (optional depending on your input)
Engine/Block heater (will be stored in barn but no heat)

Please let me know from your experiance and knowledge if this would be a good fit or what you would recommend.

Thank you for your time.

I have emailed Barlow for his input (waiting to hear back) and price and been shoping around but wanted more than the dealers input.

That looks to be a nice set up for your needs. The mid pto on the grand L's can be added down the road, so you can let that go for now. I think you can upgrade to the bigger fel on the 3940? Good luck.

Good choice.

Yes, you are; my choice would be the L4240 with the heavier loader, but the 3940 will do fine.

Grand L3940HST-3 4x4 with the HST PLus and Intellipanel
Front End Loader LA724 (would prefer the LA854 but not sure will fit the L3940) (possibly adding 3rd function valve) As mentioned, it can be added later; I have yet to find a need for one; depends on your use.
72" Heavy Duty Bucket with 2 lever quick coupler

Fluid in rear tires (rimguard or something similar?) Sounds good to me.
Hood Guard
R4 tires
1 Rear remote valve. I would have a minimum of two, but that can also be added later.
Front and Rear Work Lights
Mid PTO (optional depending on your input) Again, I have never needed one, but who knows.
Engine/Block heater (will be stored in barn but no heat) I keep mine in unheated barns/sheds and they always start; maybe your winters are worse than mine.

I am probably being nit picky and you would be happy configured as is. Good luck.

I have 14 acres, woods, creek etc. I asked the same question for the past few months and after receiving a lot of good advice I ordered the Kubota 5740 which is 58hp and 50hp at the pto. I ordered an anbo grapple for all the trees I will be moving to the cut pile like yourself.
I rented JD and NH tractors in the 40hp bracket and found with the hills and loading that I wanted a bit more more hp.
I'll post with pictures when all the toys come in.

I think you'll do fine with the L3940, we move 750lbs round bales with ours
everyday. My wife and son just finished bringing in 77 bales today and put
them in the shed. The Kubota makes this operation a dream over our older
IH 574 with a loader. I've moved full buckets of dirt with the L3940 and it's
always felt completely stable and rock solid.

Good choice, I like mine! I would skip the mid pto, what are you going to use it for? I started with one rear remote, then added another. Philip.

Lost faith in JD back to looking!
:welcome: to Enlightenment.

Everything you described sounds great and suited for your purposes, though I second the idea for getting at least 2 remotes while you're at it - you will want them later and then it will be somewhat of a hassle.

Unless you have a clear intent for the mid-PTO - such as the MMM or a front-mounted snowblower - you could probably skip it. There's always the options of a RFM or rear 3PH snowblower instead.
