JD- 955 what is nearest?

I am on my never ending quest to find a replacement for the JD-955 w/FEL. My goal is 28-32 HP @ PTO, HST, with 2000-2500 GWV not incl FEL. The 955 nailed this spec.

What does the forum think is the closest replacement for the 955?

I live on a very steep hill so the 955 was perfect for me. If JD has a new relative I will go back to Green real fast.

Maybe a 3120?? I think from reading other posts that it is similar to the 790/3005 with a hydro.

Buster, according to your profile, you have a Kubota B7800 (22 PTO HP, if I recall correctly).
I'm assuming the Kubota replaced your 955. I'm also assuming it's a bit tippy on your slopes which is why you want a 955 type machine (with it's low C of G). I'm also assuming you want the power of a 955 (around 34 Gross HP and about 27 PTO HP).
Most of the Deeres (including the 3120) would be closer in size to the B7800 then your old 955.

The "subcompact" Deeres would not have the power on the 955.

So, the obvious thing is to look for a late model ('96-'97) low hours used 955.
Or, think a bit out of the box and consider something like a Powertrac or one the other machines built for working on slopes.
Another alternative is to add spacers on the axles of your B7800 to make it more stable on those slopes (that would help with the stability, but not make up for the power of the 955).

JD really has no replacement for the 955. The 2520 weighs1850lb and has 26.5hp the next size up is the 3120, 29hp but weighs around 2900lb, no attachments or ballast. I tried one out before buying my 2520 and I think the 3x20's have a much higher center of gravity than the 2520/2320 or the older X55's.

I think JD really has a hole in their lineup and has nothing to compare to the orange B3030 and B7800. I think the 3203 is an attempt, but its is so stripped down (no backhoe support) that it is not apples to apples.

If you don't mind me asking, why replace the 955? If its just worn out, I see quite a few nice low hour ones for sale. For me, the 2520 was a good replacement for my old 755 and 0% for three years was too hard to pass up. I did consider trying to find a 955 with backhoe though.

Honest answer-I could not find a JD955. I went from a 318 to a Kubota L3010 which was under powered.

If I ever find a good used 955 I will buy it but they are really expensive and hard to find, at least in Oregon.

If JD comes out with a replacement I will buy one probably immediately. That is why I was checking the JD section here. I have no doubt I will be back

I thought the new 3005 and 4005 where the replacements fot the 790 and 990 respectivally?

The replacements for the 790 and 990 will be the 3005 and the 4005. Interim Tier 4 engines, as well as new decals will be the only changes on these tractors. Deere is changing the model numbers so that they are more in line with the rest of the lineup.

The 3005 weighs nearly 1000 pounds more with less PTO horse power then the 955.

Very Nice tractor but it is closer to the Kubota Grand L series then the 955.

What about the new JD 2720? Don't know anything about them though really.

I've seen on the Deere website that the 2720 is finally launched. Basically a 2520, but with a 31HP motor. Closer to a 955, but still a little lighter and a couple less HP than the 955.

I haven't heard of the 3005 and 4005, but the 790 and 990don't really compare to the 955 as they are both manual shift only with no hydro option. I looked at a 990 once and they are really quite a large tractor. I think some guys on here have used them to move round bales and other heavy duty uses.
