JD 955 Specs

Can anyone give me the specs for a JD 955 4WD? Engine & PTO HP and some idea about the likely approx age? Is this model a good tractor by most accounts and some idea about what would be a fair price - unit has 1455 hours. Would this tractor be suitable for an FEL?

The 955 was produced from 1990 through 1997. It has 35.3 gross engine HP, 33 net engine HP, and 27 PTO hp. If you post the Serial Number, I can look the model year of manufacture. The John Deere loader originally sold for the 955 was Model 70A. The newer model 420 loader can also be used on the 955. The big advantage of the 420 is that it has quick-attach bucket, pallet forks, etc. Both loaders attach / detach very quickly from the tractor.

I have an 855 which is the younger brother to the model in question. I have a 70A loader on mine and would not have purchased the tractor without it. It is indespensible and works great on this unit. The only drawback to the FEL on the 755,855,955 is the fact that the loader bucket blocks the headlights at night. The headlights are located on the fenders on either side of your behind. I paid 12,000 for mine which is a 1995 and it had 275 hours on it. I also received some implements with it. The good news is that the machine has HST (they all do).

As far as the 955 goes:

1) Quite a few hours
2) No FEL

I would think that this machine could be had for a nice low price depending on the area of the country in which you live.

There are several places on the web where you can determine what year your potential tractor was built using the serial number. There are also places on the web where you can put in a tractor model and the options it has and it will give you a ballpark range on what it may fetch.
