jd 955 72\" mower u-joint chatter
My 1997 955 72" mower deck has less than 60 hrs. The deck pto is chattering alot when the mower is running at the recommended pto rpm while in the lowered position. When the deck is fully raised the noise is gone. I've inspected the u-joints and they are tight and greased. I believe the u-joint angles are excessive and that's where the noise is generated. I was thinking that the gear box on the mower deck needs to be raised, but the shaft running the pulley will then be to short, needing replacing. Does anyone know if there is an upgrade supplied by John Deere?
