JD 870 upgrade pump

John Deere 870 tractor

My hydraulic pump is rated 8.1 gpm, could it be upgraded to 12?
I would like to use an attachment that requires 12+ gpm

I had an 870 tractor, and it was only 28 hp as i recall. If it has power steering, it had 12 gpm flow. But the extra 4 gpm was used for power steering. I guess by upgrading pump from a power steering version to a manual steering rig it would bump up the flow, but not sure if it would fit…or if you could even get parts for it.

what implements are you trying to run?
Biggest problem is heat build up on implement use. I have a rear 3 point hydraulic tank and pto pump for implements. It keeps heat out of the tractor.

i am interested in a Shaver hydrauliccpost pounder. The smallest one will fit my tractor. I thought the next model up would be a better value, but when i rechecked the price it is significantly more money, so probably i would go with the one that already fits the specs for my tractor. If you do not have power steering, then perhaps getting the pump for a model 870 with power steering would give you the flow you were looking for.

It appears to me that 870 hyd pump for tractor hyd's is the same part #(AM877525) with or without power steering. If it was my tractor I'd consider adding a pto hyd pump with a 10 gallon reservoir. Yrs back I converted a Vermeer R23 hyd drive hay rake to be powered by a pto hyd pump so I could operate it on a smaller tractor.
