I recently bought a 2005 JD 790 and its a great tractor and had all the maintenance history. With just 275 hours it's lightly used and was serviced at 250hrs. I've noticed a small oil leak that I thought was coming from the oil filter at first but after wiping and running it again it seems to be coming from something above the oil filter. Any ideas on what could be leaking up there? It's can't be higher than about 3 inches from the oil filter.

On another note, the clutch doesn't seem to have much travel or engages darn near the floor. Is there an adjustment or is this just how these things feel?

I love being a JD owner!

Can't help you with the oil leak, but the clutch on my 790 engages near the very bottom for the PTO, but at or very near the top for the transmission gears. Took me awhile to get used to it and stop jerking the tractor everytime I started out with it. Is that how your clutch is now?? Let me know if you find some way to adjust the clutch so the two engagement points are a bit closer together.

Yes, that's exactly how my clutch is as well. Seems very strange because it either feels all worn out (drive) or new and not adjusted (PTO)

Anyone?
