Greetings to All, I have an opportunity to purchase a JD 755 with MMM, front mount snowblower, and cab at a reasonable price (I think). It has about 970 hours on it-a Yanmar diesel. I want it for snow removal at my house and mowing my lawn. Never had a JD-is this is decent tractor or have there been some problems with this model? I haven't seen it yet as it 's coming into a dealer who will service it. Not sure whether it's a hydro or not. Can anyone provide me with some info please?

The 755 is a great tractor. I know two guys who own them. Both have been extremely reliable.

All the 755's are hydro's.

Do a search on TBN for more opinions and such.

The only thing I never cared for on the '55 series is the placement of the head lamps (rear fenders just outboard of the operator' station).

If I recall correctly, these machies are 20 HP gross and 15 HP at the PTO.

Roy,

Those headlamps were in addittion to the ones in front. They were great for nighttime loader work! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gifIMO all tractors should have both.

I've got a nice pic of a 755. I don't see any lamps on the front.

The lamps on the fenders are OK unless you have a loader...then there's a problem.

Thank you gentlemen-this gives me some idea on the 755. As far as the lights, it sounds like you are talking about two sets of lights depending upon the usage & implements. I have an old International-it has "work" lights on the fenders which illuminate the rows on either side of the tractor as well as "road" lights up in the nose (which are covered by the loader if I pick it up too high!)
Thanks again.

The 755, 855 and 955 have 2 sets of front lights, plus flashers.
There are 2 55w rectangular lights mounted in the fenders, just to the side of your knees. These lights are bright, provide great visibility, but do bounce off the loader uprights. They provide fantastic visibility of your mower deck if you choose to mow at night - something I haven't seen on any other tractor.

Also - there are 3 smaller lights integrated into a light bar in the front of the hood. These are not as bright as the side lights, but provide good forward lighting. As with any tractor, they can be blocked by the loader bucket when it at the wrong height.

I'm satisfied with the lighting on my 855. I think it is better than that I've seen on a lot of other models.

Overall the 755 is a good tractor. All are 2 spd hydro. They were available in 2wd and 4wd - look for 4wd. Believe power steering was standard - but may only have been on the 4wd versions. Independent mid and rear PTO std.
Takes the 70 loader - which was also used on the 770 / 790 tractors at one time.

800 hours is not a lot for these machines - but general care and maintenance can make a big difference. Check for any signs of abuse or leakage.

The 755 is a great tractor. I had one for 16 years and about 1200 hours before trading up for a 4310. I did a temendous amount of work with that tractor.

What year is the tractor? You will want 4WD. 4WD was an option for the 755. I mowed with mine and it did a very good job. For snow removal, I used a back blade and front end loader so I can't comment on the snowblower.

I did not have any major problems with my 755. It was well designed and the MMM comes off and on easily.

If you have any specific questions let me know.

Jeff
