Kubota B2150HSDB 4WD
I have been looking for a used compact for a few months now and I must admit that I have mainly been looking for a Kubota B2150 as that would fit my needs and there are several dealers nearby. I have just seen an ad for a John Deere 755 20hp, hydrostatic, power steering, 4wd, front loader & back hoe. As I don't know anything about this model is there anyone who could give me some advise please.

The main reason I haven't considered JD before is that there isn't a dealer for about 100 miles but the price is within my budget and it does have a back hoe as well which is a bonus. Is this a good model from JD? How does it compare with my first choice of the Kubota B2150?

I have contacted the dealer to find out more about the condition and hours and am waiting to hear back.

Regards

Andrew.

Andy, I'd say that the 755 is 3 or 4 hp lighter than the 2150, a little less lift capacity on the 3-point, etc. In other words, just a slightly smaller tractor, but depending on condition and price, it might be a good alternative.

I've had a 755 for about a year now. I bought it used 1990 with 350 hrs. Came with 60" mower deck , boom pole,6' leinback blade, spike aerator, and utility trailer for $8000. No loader or backhoe . I have about 6 acres with about 3 clear and a 300' gravel diveway. It cut my mowing time from 4 hrs to 1hr. I bought a 5' landscape rake which does a great job keeping the drive way in shape. I used the back blade to push up some small 2" to 3" saplings to clear out the woods. Sure could use the loader and the backhoe. The only thing I've wondered about is the high RPM required for PTO speed 3000 rpm . Really seems to scream but runs there for hours without a hitch.

Would it be fairer to compare the 755 to the Kubota B1750, if so, is there much to choose between them? I see a few B1750's advertised but they seem to be more expensive than the JD 755, is this the same over on your side of the pond?

I would like a back hoe which is why I am attracted to this one but I would rather have a good tractor without one than an okay one with. I could probably manage with a FEL with teeth to do the kind of work I have planned it's just that I can see times when a back hoe would make the job much easier.

What made you go for the 755, did you consider any other make? Have you had any problems with it at all?

Sorry to throw all these questions at you but the one I have seen advertised is over 500 miles away and as I said in my original post the nearest dealer is 100 miles away. So as you will appreciate I don't want to make the wrong purchase.

Andy, I'm sure there are other guys on the forum who are more familiar with these models and the prices than I am. Just looking at the specs for both, engine displacement, hp, tire sizes, etc. seems to make the 755 and B1750 very close. In my part of the country, I would expect the Deere to be priced higher than a comparable Kubota (assuming both to be in the same condition and same number of hours on the meter), but the same may not be true in other parts of the country. Cowboydoc lives close to Deere headquarters and has indicated he can get better prices on the Deere. So I don't have a good answer for you. I would think either model would be well worth considering though.

Thanks for the comments. Do you think I should worry whether or not there is a dealer nearby? I intend to do most of the minor work myself but I am concerned should there be something major in the future.

Of course, all this discussion will be academic if it has starship hours /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif. I am hoping the dealer will get back to me soon.

Worry about whether there's a dealer nearby? Well, if I'm buying a new product, I certainly prefer having a dealer nearby, just in case I need warranty work. But if I were buying a used one with no warranty, then I probably wouldn't care much. At least in my area, besides tractor dealers, there are plenty of independent garages that work on all brands of tractors. So . . ., I'd want to get a shop manual and parts manual, if possible, and with those, if I ran into a problem I couldn't do myself, I know some mechanics who could handle it. I don't know what the situation is in your area for tractor mechanics.

This has been my experince. I had a 755 and 855 both tractors were very reliable. I'm not afraid of the 55 seris tractors. Were I live the nearest kubota dealer is 100 miles away so that is why I didn't look at them. I have a part time busness with mt tractor and usally runs every day for some one. DDT

JD 755 - Good buy or not?

Hi all

I have just had a reply from the dealer and will copy it below. I would be grateful for any comments anyone may have. The price works out at £6,200 (US$9,250 approx) including 17.5% VAT.

Thank you for your e-mail, the machine has only just arrived and is currently going through our workshop.

However in answer to your questions:
The bodywork is tatty, these nearly always are as JD tin work is not very durable on their smaller machines, but mechanically it is sound. It has been used all its life in a graveyard, doing normal light haulage duties and grave digging.
It has done 2200 hrs.
Agricultural tyres.
It is not road registered and on this generation of machines the year is not include on the chassis plate, however going by the design it is between 1989-91.
Yes, it doesn't have a recorded service history, but shows all the signs of having been well maintained.

It is over 500 miles away, so I can't just pop round to see it and give it a try. Is it worth considering or not? My gut instinct says to forget it due to the condition of the tin work and also the hours, but the price has been adjusted accordingly./w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

Thanks in advance

Regards

Andrew.
