John Deere 755 mfwd JD 450B Crawler Dozer
I have an early model JD 755 mfwd with a 60" belly mower. I don't know what model the belly mower is and I need to replace the belt on it. Does anyone have any information on the size/type of belt and a good/inexpensive website where I can order one?

Also, is there a place I can get a user manual for the belly mower? Trying to get the belt on/off from between two of the pullys seems like it will damage the belt.

Thanks in advance!

The John Deere website has parts diagrams for all models and attachments, including your 755 an the model 60 mower. It indicates that you need an M140021 V-BELT (SUB FOR M84156 OR M95728) . Without having the length, no substitute brand is likely. You can order manuals and user guides form this site, from a dealer, or from eBay.

The parts list also includes (shows) a belt routing diagram. I have the 72" mowers (both belly and front mounted). If you have a clash between pulleys when winding the belt, chances are its routed incorrectly. That can lead to premature belt failure (and a screwy looking lawn because one of the blades is going backwards !)

The belt passes around a spring loaded idler pulley. Use a pry bar and push that pulley against the spring load so as to loosen the belt tension. Then pull on the belt in its normal direction while lifting it around a blade pulley. Just keep fingers clear and wear gloves.

Thank you.
The belt is routed correctly, as the diagram for the belt routing is on the underside of one of the covers. It is just two of the pully wheels are closer than a belt's breadth apart. This doesn't include the spring mounted tension pully. When the present belt came off, to get it back on it had to be squeezed damagingly between them.

There is a close clearance between the gearbox pulley and the center blade pulley. However the procedure to change the belt includes removing the gear box. As you reinstall the gear box you wrap the belt around the pulley first. Sounds like you did not remove the gear box. That would make the entire installation very difficult. Easy mistake to make if you do not have the manual.

Yep, that would be the two. Thanks for the information and will do the gearbox removal when I put he new belt on.

When you remove the gear box you may want to also change the oil since it is off anyway. Recommended interval is 500 hours. Remove the top vent plug and the side check plug, turn it on the side and drain from the check plug hole. Put back vertical and fill from top vent plug hole until oil starts to flow from check plug hole . Use API GL-5 Gear Oil. Replace both plugs.
