I noticed my "new" 71 planter has a couple minor issues. On one unit, the press roller wheel has a lot of play, so I assume that the bearing is out. Also, on the other unit the assembly is backwards (the hub that tht wheel bolts to is pressed onto the shaft inside out). I took the wheels off. I removed completely the jamb nut and set screw that apparently contacts the bearing or shaft. I took the cover off the chain housing, and removed the bolt that holds on the drive sprocket (threads into the press wheel shaft or hub on end of shaft). I tapped on the sprocket mounting end of the shaft, from inside the chain housing, toward the wheel-direction. Looking at the picture in the manual ( a Yetter 71 manual I got off the internet), there seems to be a hub on the end of the shaft, that provides the sprocket mounting provisions. Maybe this has to come off first somehow? Could it be that a LONGER bolt (7/16" I think) inserted into the hub part will press it off the shaft? Thats my best guess at this point, but I'd sure appreciate hearing from someone who has had this apart before. Thanks!

Below is an address from a JD parts website. I don't know if it will help at all but it does show the pieces involved. I belive you are correct about the hub (item 12). The drawing also shows 2 ball bearings. You will probably have to cut and paste this address. I haven't worked on my planter's press wheel, but sometimes a picture helps.

I think this is a pretty good picture of the assembly. See attached diagram (hopefully). this pic is from the Yetter book. I am speculating that threading a longer fully threaded 7/16" bolt into part number 12 will pry it off the end of the shaft, part number 11. Sound logical?

Hey Jim,

I'm getting up to my dealer in the next day I can ask the guys if they have taken one apart, I should have time in the next couple days that I can try to get one out of my spare parts and see how it comes out.
