2006 JD 700J LGP
Hello Everyone. I'm having some electrical issues with my 2006 JD 700J dozer, and wanted to see if I could get some input.

I was running the machine yesterday with no problems. While moving forward at moderate speed on level ground with no load, suddenly the machine jolted forward and stopped. It sounded like it was stalling, but I throttled down and it ran at idle.

I noticed the AC was not blowing, the radio lost power, the gauges and monitor all went out, and the Transmission Controller box also lost power.

I shut the machine off and put the key back into the "on" position and noticed that it did not beep like usual, and the gauges still had no power. Cranked it anyway and it does start and run at idle.

Here's a summary of what is and is not getting power:
What works:
Starter
All Windshield wipers
front lights on top of the cab
blade & ripper work
horn

What's not working:
Transmission controller
gauges
dashboard monitor
AC/Heater
Front lights
Rear lights
cab dome light
Throttle knob
....Pretty much everything else that I didn't list under "what works"

I checked all fuses and they were all good.

Since the horn works, I swapped the horn relay with every other relay and the horn worked with all of the other relays.

My local JD construction dealer said it sounded like wiring issues with the transmission controller, but without tearing the machine down I don't know how I can inspect all wiring behind the fuse panel.

Has anyone experienced similar issues and can point me in the right direction?

I have had some harness chaffing problems on my j series dzr. Start @ the transmission controller. Check both big plugs for corosion on the contacts then follow those two big harnesses looking for chaffing. Use a flashlight and chk carefully everwhere the wires bend around metal parts. Use your fingers too feel behind the wires also. If u find it u can strip back the protective wrap and splice it back with a butt connector.

Thank you for the reply, Pbjci.

I actually resolved this problem. At first I thought it was a wire pinched between where the ignition power comes into the transmission control unit. After patching the wire the problem seem to be resolved. Once I put everything back together and tried to start the tractor the same issue occurred.

I realized that the problem was actually with the heater valve located under the floorboard. When it was unplugged the tractor ran fine but when I plugged it in, I had the same issue with the transmission controller not coming on. I guess the valve shorted out and was causing a break in the circuit. My temporary solution was just disconnected the heater valve until I get the new part in. It runs fine now but no air-conditioning. I think the valve was stuck open before it burned out. New part on order I will update thread when I get it in and installed, hopefully everything runs fine.

Glad you told me that. That same valve stuck open on my dzr. I just clamped th heater hose off too keep the heater off. I was planning to bypass that valve and throw it away th next time I had the floor out.
