I bought a john deere planter and I cannot find the tag anywhere. What is the differences between a model 70 and a model 71?

Farmwithjunk said:The mounting hardware to attach to the toolbar, the downpressure adjusting hardware, and drive gearing are different. 70's are less adjustable and more proned to "bouncing" on rough ground.

I zoomed up your picture, too blurry to tell. These are 70s. One other way to tell is take the cover off the gear box. A 70 adjusts for tension by loosening the wheel mounting bolts (3 bolts surrounding the drive sprocket towards the back of the housing) and sliding to take up the slack. A 71 has a spring loaded idler, IIRC.
