I have a John Deere 670 Compact Utility Tractor that needs the headlight switch replaced (corroded and frozen up). First step to getting behind the instrument panel is to remove the steering wheel, but I just can't figure out how to do it. I removed the little plastic cap and the big nut and washer underneath, but it will not budge. It does not seem corroded down around the threaded top of the steering column. I did a half-assed pulling job by wedging a C-clamp against the top of the threaded section and around the bottom of the steering wheel hub, but I could only pull so hard, and it was at an angle, and the steering hub is kinda plastic-y and I felt it might break. So I guess I need to rent/borrow a real honest-to-god pulley puller. But I can't help but feel there's something else I need to undo for the wheel to come off. I bought a PDF of a big service manual online, but it's useless - the section on headlight switch replacement simply says "remove steering wheel" but then goes into great detail about how to undo the nut that holds the switch in (duh !). Any suggestions would be appreciated !
