If it ain't one thing it is another!!!!

So got the tractor all cleaned up and was getting ready to put the shredder back on it, but wanted to go knock down a very small dirt pile near one of my boy blinds. Did that job and on the way back to the house I saw a small tree down in the road. i stopped to push it out of my way and when I went to shift back to reverse it keep going forward. The shifter shows to be in reverse but when you let out the clutch it continued forward in the same forward gear I was in before.

FYI this has Forward and Reverse quick shift and also 4 speed power shift with the quad range A, B, C, D.

I went through all the forward gears and combinations and everything is good in forward. When I go to park it acts like an emergency brake would on a car trying to move forward but being held back and almost kills the engine. Put in N neutral and it goes forward without restrictions. Clutch works but no matter what gear I put it in it goes forward.

So needless to say once I got home and parked it, when I turned off the engine it won't start because the tractor is still in gear.

I am thinking (hoping) it is just a linkage problem?? I guess it could be hydraulic in the transmission. The forward and reverse lever really feels like it is doing nothing.

Can you see the linkage from underneath the cab? Can I take the consol that covers the shifters off to see in?

Any help or ideas is greatly appreciated we have had seems like one issue after another with this tractor I guess it is just wore out.

assuming a manual geared tranny it sounds like a broken or disconnected shift fork? you would need to open it up and have a look at all the linkages

Ya that was one of my fears.

Ditto broken linkage or broken shift fork or possibly galled synchronizers. Several yrs back I owned an Orange tractor that stuck in reverse that required a new manual reverser synchronizer assembly

I guess for starters. Cab or not. Power Quad or Synchro? Left hand Reverser?

The Cable system to have an elegant shifter on the right hand fender, is problematic.

Worn out? Well, We couldn't shift gears on our brand new 6200 with manual trans, and when my Dad mentioned it to them, when touring the plant in Manheim, they went and got a manual tractor off the lot and couldn't shift gears in that either! They had some new gears cut and sent to our dealer. THAT is what happens when as they said in the 6000 series Ad, "We started with a clean sheet of paper" !

Anyway, without knowing the style of your tractor, I suspect those cable linkages.

I am GUESSING you have the electric reverser.
If so, check for wiring at solenoids on transmission. Pulled off, broken wire(s), bad solenoid.
Next it could be the electric control lever.

I tried to explain in the OP but not knowing the correct terminology sucks I know sorry. Our old 4230 quad shift 1 2 3 4. with outside shifter A B C D and it is not like our 4450 that had a straight power shift.

This one seems to be a little of both. It has a forward reverse neutral and park on the inside shift and then it has a four speed power shift on the second knob then the outside shifter is a 4 range A B C D.

I can shift between 1 2 3 and 4 like normal and as well as through the Letter gears for A B C and D. The problem is with the forward and reverse shifter.

EDIT!!! POWER QUAD TRANSMISSION I looked it up.

It was the earlier version before the left hand reverser. Not Electric like the LHR. I'm still thinking linkage cable.

OK, you have a PowerQuad with right hand reverser. Reverser F & R plus Park in the right hand console.
Check (follow the cable) the linkage at the transmission. See if levers (on transmission) move the shaft (might be sheared roll pin.)
If no external problems, it might be internal.
