I am in the learning curve on tractor repair and maintenance, so thanks in advance for any replies and or advice.
Included in a larger purchase of equipment was a JD 5300 tractor (3200 hrs, 2wd, collar shift trans). The first symptom was when changing FEL attachments. The inplement attachment brackets moved independently of one another instead of together. After some more use, it has developed a bumping or slight jerking when raising the FEL. It can also be felt in the steering. Fluid is full and clear(ish). There was a whining sound that seemed to go away when the hydraulics were engaged. After 3 hours of the most recent use there seemed to be a more ominous sound coming from the tractor that we could hear over the engine.
These are new symptoms; we had used the tractor for 100 hours or so with no issues.

* Left out an important detail:these symptoms only occur after the tractor has running a while and is running at temp.

Thanks again for any replies

Have you checked fluid levels?

What is the condition of the fluid, milky, burnt smell, wrong fluid, etc.

Have you changed filter and checked any screens in the sump if it has them?

Thanks for the reply.
The fluid is full, and is clean, or very slightly opaque. As to the type of fluid, it is not Hy Gard, but I am certain it is the same fluid that had been used for this tractor since new.
I have not changed the filter or checked the screen. I imagine that the extent of the hydraulic system maintenance by the prior owner consisted of topping off the fluid and changing the filter. I am not sure where the internal screen is located.

Here is some info from JD that may address the noise your are hearing:

Front End Noise : Gear backlash causes noise on 5000 series tractors
Noisy Steering on 5000 Tractors : Steering valve whines when in use

Here is some info from JD that may address the FEL issue you mentioned. This is common, you can by hand push/pull where the implement attaches too, to even them out.

Bucket Cylinders do not Extend Equally : Bucket cylinders and loader quick attach brackets are held in alignment by the timing rod.

The pickup screen for the hydraulics is located back by the PTO shaft and to the right.

If you got the 540 or 520 loader here is a manual:

Make sure you check the clutch free play:

Thanks JD5210. My understanding is that the pick-up screen is a mesh or metal device that can be cleaned and re-installed. Is that your understanding?

You are correct on the pickup screen. On the 5x10 tractors you need to drain the hydraulic fluid, so I think you will as well. Do not know if you got an owners manual, here is one for the 5X10, not the same tractor, but similar in number of ways.

JD5210, thanks again for the info. There was indeed a pin gone from behind one of the FEL brackets. It just happened to coincide with the hydaulic issues so I assumed....
J_J, I am going to change fluid and filter and clean the screen. I will report results back on this thread.

Much obliged.

Update:
Internal sump screen around 80 pct obstructed. New filter, fluid, and a clean screen and it is working as it should.
Thanks again.
