JD 5083e Radio Install with Pics - need help

I had planned to use today to install a radio in my 5083e. Not only would it be nice to have music, but it would be very handy to have Bluetooth hands free calling to my phone. With my job I'm tied to my phone. I've run into a hurdle, but I'm persistent and will see this through to the end. But I need help. So this is the radio I planned to install.

This is the adapter I thought I needed.

It takes a 5/16 nut driver to remove the cover.

The cover comes off easily and there's three things that fall out: the radio connector, the antenna, and some other connector with three wires.

So my dilemma is that the wire colors don't seem to make sense. For instance, the yellow and green come out of the connector and goes into the right speaker. I forgot my multimeter so I wasn't able I so any testing for ground, hot, and switched. Those should be easy but I can't imagine where to begin on speaker wire identification. I installed a radio w / bluetooth in my cab also. I posted in the LS Tractor forum. At the time I did not have a service or parts manual so I had to manually trace out the radio wiring harness. It was easy to find the continuous hot (for retaining radio memory), switched hot, ground etc. using either a test light or multimeter but I had to trace the speakers from the speakers to the radio plug end. Once I wrote down which wires did what I used male spade connectors on the radio wires and plugged them into the cab harness. Fortunately for me the top of my cab opens like a clam shell for access to everything in the ceiling such as the A/C unit, heater, and speakers. You will either need access to the speakers to check the wiring colors or an electrical schematic for your tractor to read the colors. My installation took about an hour. It took me longer figuring out how to program the radio. I have to recheck the bluetooth programming because it mutes the radio station on an incoming call but I have no audio coming from the speakers when I answer the call. At least I have music. I'll work on bluetooth another time.

We put a JVC in our 5065M and I suspect the connections are the same. You need this wiring harness it's for an older VW, have know idea why JD chose an connector from the 80's, they probably figured no would go tot he trouble to figure out which one it needed and would pay them $600-800 for their radio:

Amazon is much cheaper but I don't know for sure if it's the correct one. We picked up 2 different harnesses at BB and took back the one that didn't fit the JD connector. Once you get it all wired up run a ground wire from the radio chassis to a good ground or it probably won't work until you do so.

Thanks for the input! There is a "hatch" on the roof held down by about 20 Allen head bolts. I'd hate to open it for fear of disrupting the weather seal. That might be necessary though. I ran home and got my multimeter so I'll play with it tonight.

Anyone have the wiring schematic to a 5083e they could share with me?

Yes I have the harness you describe already. It mates fine to the Deere connector. That's what's in the second pic of my original post. It just doesn't make sense with the wire colors not matching up.

Here's a thread on a 5085M radio upgrade that shows what each wire color goes to. I would bet that it's the same as your 5083E. http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/...3-upgrading-stereo-speakers-5085m-deluxe.html

I figure some close ups are in order. The first two pics are of the harness made by metra. It's model number 70-1784. It says "Audi 88-99/Volkswagen 80-2011. Despite the wire colors, it mates perfectly with the Deere connector. For some reason blue and blue/white were disconnected.

The next two pics are of the connector inside the tractor. According to my multimeter, none of the wires is a ground. The red wire toward the middle adjacent to the black is 12v. The double red in the same row as the black is switched 12v with the ignition. The yellow and green go up to the right speaker, which makes me think the blue and purple next to them go to the left speaker.

Thanks again dishpointer. The schematics that pclausen posted in the thread linked above for a 5085m illustrate what I'm seeing in my 5083e. One thing I don't understand from the schematics is which wires are positive vs negative to the speakers. Sorry to be dense maybe it's on the schematic I'm just not seeing it.
