JD 5000 backhoe hydraulic leak

A friend has JD 5000 backhoe. It has a bad hydraulic leak around boot for lever (see picture) on top of case. Supposedly, leak started after swing cylinder hose was replaced. Thoughts?

Were other hoses removed to replace the swing hose?

Reason for asking is that an external leak under that boot is typically caused by excessive back pressure in the tank line.

Not sure if you can find the leak as grubby as it is....

I honestly do not know. My first thought was is that something is pressuring the tank. Could this be caused by hoses being connected backwards?

That could be a possibility depending on which hoses are connected wrong
