Hi All,

Was wondering if there were any know problems with this modle tractor. Found one for a good price and need to get as much info on it as possable. The only draw back is that it has turf tires but other than that it seems to be a great price.

Let me know your thoughts... I'd have to drive about 15 hours to go pick it up it, but think it maight be worth it.

I don't remember any real issues specific to the large frame Ten-Series Deere CUTs. They're generally rock-solid.

The orginal batteries on a lot if not most Deere tractors (not just the large frames) have been known to have fume/leak problems that if left go can corrode the radiator and sheet metal around the battery. Deere has been reported fixing them if an owner had a problem. (maybe only original owner under warranty?)

Instrument panel covers can fog. Not a big deal, but there is a replacement cover with different seals/treatments.

Gas guages on most CUTs including the Deere units seem to be hoaky. I'm not sure there is a fix yet there.

Last - Deere has just issued a PIP (Product Improvement Program - call it a 'recall') on at least some 4710's (mine is on the list) to add a different heat shield around the exhaust. If the unit you're looking at is affected, Deere should be doing that free.

Thanks for the heads up on the recalls.

Any last words of wisdom before I pull the trigger and try to make a deal on this tractor??

Correct me if I am wrong... to try and buy a tractor like this new would be around 30k plus. It would not be the same model as they don't make this one anymore... but to buy one of this caliber.

Thanks again for any input!

L Nicholson,

I don't know if I'd pull the trigger at that price or not. I bought a brand new one in 2003. It's a 4710 E-hydro, all other bells and whistles, 460 fel, R4 tires, deluxe seat, etc. I had other items on the deal but if you back those out and prorate the discounts I paid roughly $23,800. Now you have to consider the brush cutter but let's say that's worth $600 so the number to compare is about $24,400. Consider you won't be happy with turf tires so there's another $$$$$.

It doesn't sound like a deal I'd drive 15 hours for. Sorry but you asked.

BTW, it's a great tractor. Check on a recall on the e-hydro tranny. There was a range of serial numbers that had a recall on the ehydro. Mine fell in the range and they replaced the valve body I think. It was a safety issue but mine never had any problems before or after. I've got about 350 hrs on mine and it impresses me every time I use it. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I wouldn't hesitate buying that model tractor but there are probably better deals to be had closer to home. Of course this is my opinion. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

As you know, there are not many 4710's for sale out there. Most folks who paid dearly to get one realize how great they are and don't want or need to replace/upgrade.

However, they are asking maybe a few thousand less than it cost new which with only 39 hours is a very good deal if it is in great shape.

Partsman,

Maybe this isn't the way I should look at it but I'm looking from the number of hours on the tractor. To me it's basically brand new.... the thing looks great.

To buy a new tractor which would be the 4520 with FEL and brush hog I'm looking at 27k for the tractor and 6k for the fel and brush hog. I'm figuring this from a quote I got from the local dealer on the 4120
JD 4120 hst = 21,300.00 (includes rear hydro) (ag tires)
400x Loader =3,675
MX6 Rotary Cutter = 2,200
Setup/ pre-delivery 325.00

we are clear up to 27,500 for less HP

All the other 4710's I've prices have 600 plus hrs and don't include the fel and brush hog.

Yes the turf tires are an issue.... I have priced ag's new and installed at 675.00

The seller has offered to ship for an additional 500.00

Having said that I still don't know if I'm on the right track.... part of me says yea... it's an ok deal.. but as a newbie I am hesitant.

anyone else... anyone???

my price is off on the 4520... tractor should be around 23k if you take MSRP and subtract 10%.

Not to throw cold water on this. But why does a 2003 tractor only have 39 hours on it? Has the dash been replaced?

Everything so far seems to be on the up and up.... he bought it with the intent to use it more but didn't.

I'm still talking with him about it.

anyone know about the turf tire rims??? are they a different rim than the AG or R4??

I'm just wanting to make sure I could replace the turf tires IF I needed to with AG's or R4's

I have a 2003 4510 - same frame, smaller engine. Mine has 100 hours and it's been trouble free. These large frame Deere CUTs are not common on the used market. They are excellent machines.
