Sometime ago I was having issues with the HST gear range switching - even on level ground it was very difficult to go from low (A position) to high (C position). I left it in "A" since that's what I mostly use. After a recent service I accidentally moved it out of the "A" position and now it will not engage in any other postion then "C". The shift lever just moves freely from front to back of travel. While it will "click" into the "c" position when moved all the way back - no go on the "B" or "A" positions. I checked the connection between the shifting lever and the rod it connects to under the tractor - it is firmly in place and the rod that travels into the transmission housing does move freely...
Any thoughts to consider od do I need to do major surgery to repair??
Thanks!!

Check too that the spring pin (key #17) isn't sheared off.. believe that is outside the tranny as shown here.
Maybe the one (key #5) on the inside, as another possibility.

The PTO lever on my 4300 has that spring-pin type connection and it sheared off.. once.

Yep - I also saw that schematic and was wondering if that might be the problem. I need to get in there to see if that is a problem. Thanks !!

I've been searching the forum and found this as today my 4600 is stuck in Range-B and the shifter flops around.
I can move the lever towards Range-C but won't engage but cannot get it anywhere Range-A where it runs most of the time.
One question I have is can I access the shifter and shift forks by removing the seat area as I put a cab on it this summer and don't really want to take it off unless absolutely necessary. Does the tire have to come off as well. (Just brought home a drum of windshield fluid but haven't filled them yet.) Don't know yet if I'm going to tackle this or have it done somewhere.
I think it's a 99 model and it has a little over 2k hours on it.

Just found this:
No tractor splitting necessary. On my 2 4300s, one was split and one was not. Both had new range
shift shafts installed. (Both still working, too.)

Seat, rear fenders, left rear wheel, and 3-point cylinder housing all have to come off.
