I have a JD 4600 compact utility tractor. I was working on a project Sunday when the clutch pedal just died - meaning the pedal dropped completely down and did not spring back up. I want to say I heard something snap right at that moment, but it could have been the sound of the pedal dropping and bottoming out.
Tractor still starts and the front loader still works, but that is IT. The tractor will not engage in any gear, and will not move forward or backward. Even with the engine running I can shift freely through all the gears, and even can switch ranges (A-B-C). Nothing happens. Hydrostatic shifting from F-N-R also does nothing. My uniformed description is that the clutch is stuck permanently in the é›»epressed mode. Like it is in neutral ( clutch depressed) forever.
No external broken linkages between the clutch pedal and what looks like a hydraulic slave cylinder under the left foot rest area (right next to the filter). So I am thinking either I have a blown slave cylinder, which would explain the total loss of pressure on the pedal, or it is something far worse, like the whole clutch or transmission itself has blown.
Any thoughts? I am planning to call the JD dealer and have it picked up, but if there is some way I could get in the ballpark on the problem, it would be super helpful.
