good evening everyone, I have a new to me John Deere 455 it does have a loader and three point. When I was moving gravel recently I noticed lots of oil coming down the filter. I removed the filter thinking I could get to the two hex fittings just above it. Turns out I can't, well I needed to replace the hydraulic filter anyway. Long story short it appears to be leaking from the one right above the filter which I assume is a relief valve. How do I get that little guy out and figure out where the leak is coming from? It could also be coming from the bottom side of the housing right above the filter I'm not sure what they call that part

Welcome to TBN
I've not had that leak show up on my 455.
Think I would remove the seat and fender-deck to be sure where that oil leak originates from.. hard to tell without that deck removed. There are some tranny valves on the topside that could be the source.
Probably a good opportunity to clean out a lot of grass, dirt, and debris if it's been awhile since cleaning. It's a good collection spot.

Also can id parts from jd parts here.

If you find that the gasket between the motor front of transmission is leaking you will need to remove the tranny and remove the plate that the motor is mounted to at the same time. There is a gear held on by a hog ring on the end of the shaft of the pump and if the motor is separated from the mounting plate will drop the gear into the transmission. Ask me how I know. The motor is held on by several bolts some are longer than others You have to remove the long bolts since they go through the plate into the main tranny housing. the shorter bolts hold the motor to the plate those have to stay in place until the plate is removed from the transmission.

Look closely at your own photo. The transmission has a crack in it just above the the filter housing.

Didn't see that until clicking the pic and zooming in.
Do I point to what you are seeing as the crack?
If so, you have a good eye. Doesn't look good.

Yep that's it. Or else you got some serious dirt build up that is breaking loose.

@Richard001 I think that is serious dirt buildup. To me the leak is to the right on the clean spot. A constant oil leak will keep all the dirt off of that area causing a clean oil trail.

Have you resolved the oil leaking issue ?
