I'm totally confused about these tractors. I was ready to get the NH and seen all the problems they have and the trouble finding parts quickly. I can't be down for a week or so. Work has to be done on schedule. I'm taking a strong look at the JD 4520 now. I was wondering if the JD will have the pulling power of the heavier NH. The NH has larger tires and more HP. On the other hand the JD has good torque specs and larger Displacement. I test drove both. Jd seemed stiff to steer and was much louder. IS the JD worth the extra $2500.

I think the JD is worth the $, and that is what I ordered. I loved my TC35DA, but needed more PTO power for plowing. You are correct in that the TC 55 has bigger tires, stronger 3 pt lift and a stronger loader. But if you can not steer or if you cannot get parts all that is moot. It is louder as they inject a premixture to make it start easier. I was glad to save some lbs. as I must trailer it.

Why not look at the JD5205 if you want more power and a proven machine? The only real down side is that it doesn't have a power reverser transmission.

On the Deere there are several ways to save on the $2500. Go out for bids to all your area dealers. I can do that and cover that $2500 easily. There is at least that much spread between my local dealers. (Unless you are already talking to the low price guy...)

Stepping down to a 4320 might also work. It is thae same machine as the 4520 in every way except the fuel ssytem is detuned a little more. Of course, you might already be 'bottemed out' witht he 4520....

Charlie4r2,

Weight is important to get the traction you need or the horsepower is pretty much worthless on ground work. I have ballasted tires on my TC55 with a 710lb. box blade hanging on the back. I can grab a load in the bucket for extra weight and still spin all four tires (R4) in low when pulling out trees. If I had to do it over again I would have gotten the AG tires for the extra traction. They were about $400 cheaper too! But at the same time they hold less ballast so I don't know what the tradeoff really is. I think I need to build me a ballast box as a future project.
