I'm in the market for a tractor, havn't made up my mind what brand yet.I have got opinions from alot of people and had decided on Kabota,or New holland.

I decided to stop by the local JD dealer and take a look. After talking and looking at the 3038E ,he informed me he had a trade in for me to look at if I didn't mind a used tractor. It's a 2000 4500 series 4x4 with a brand new loader with 600 hrs for11,000.I plan on trying to get him down some but who knows.
My questions are:
Is this a good tractor?
How's the price?
Does anyone else have an issue with the plastic all over the tractor,or is it just me.
Most of the tractors I've looked at are not plastic!!

:welcome:
Good solid tractor, with a good price for the low hours.
I've the 4300, and the plastic has taken a beating with dropped limbs and not shown any damage. Wouldn't have been the case with steel.

I would prefer the plastic over steel. It doesn't rust and doesn't bend. May crack if stressed, but then they are not tanks. :)

Shane,

That sounds like a pretty good price. People have opinions on plastic versus steel, and for the most part JD has been using pretty good plastic that has been durable.

I have a JD4600 with about the same hours and same age. I have no problem with all of the plastic. The tractor has almost always exceeded my expectations. I have myself believing that I made a great choose when I purchased it. I am not a good person to ask about pricing but I could believe that 11K is close. I was raised on a farm and had the opportunity to use several different brands and I am convinced that the only other tractor that comes close to a JD is Kabota. I know that there is a lot of folks that will disagree but we all have our own opinion. Good luck.

I have a 2000 JD 4500 . An amazing tractor. The plastic is no problem at all...the 3 pt hitch is very strong and versatile and the 4WD is solid and feels safe. Mine is a diesel, it starts every time, all the time. I paid about $14.5k for mine a couple of years ago, and it had about 1000 hrs on it. Nicest machine I have ever owned. It runs a chipper, bushwacker and box blade for me. I would get in there and buy it!
