I just saw a ad for a 1998 JD 445 with 300 hours for 4500$.
Can you tell me if that is a good price? Also what would the 445 compare
too now? I have 5 acres of flat land would the 445 do it? I have a LA 145 now and i would like to go bigger.

The JD 445 is a real workhorse. That is a great price for only 300 hours. It will handle 5 acres with ease, but will drink some fuel doing it. But you will get cruise control, differential lock, power all around, PTO driven deck, two pair hydraulic connects, tilt steering wheel, adjustable seat, and a more comfortable ride than now. Do you get a mower deck with it?

The $4500 will be a good investment that will be very likely to not fall much below that over the future years. I doubt you will regret the purchase. The 445 that I had I sold to my son, and really glad he has it (but wished for it back :) ). Bought a 455 instead.

They are selling online between 3-4500! I just bought one with 60" deck for $1500.00 spent $700 to have engine rebuilt, another $300 by the time i changed steering cylinder, along with fluid and filter change! that brings my total investment to $2500.00 not including the 3 hour trip to get it! It still needs a $300 hood and $130 seat and still has a couple small hydraulic leaks!
By the time all this is said and done will end up with 3-3500 in it! I'm completely happy with that price but given the oppurtunity to buy a low hour tractor they are asking 4500 for they would more than likely take 3800 for it! Even at full asking price your probabaly in better shape than me!

I'd offer them 3500 and go from there anything less than 4000 i would consider a good deal! My .02

OK price. Not a great deal, but a fair one as long as it comes with a mower deck.

The 400 series is as good as they get for mowing. It'll serve you well. The are also good snow machines when equipped with blade or blower (with chains).

3PH and rear PTO (if it's got them) are cat0, and attachments can be somewhat specialized. But, from what I've read, the tiller works real good.

The hydraulics affords various other options that can't be had on tractors that don't have it. I use a hydraulic dump trailer behind mine. Works great!
