JD 4310 sounds sick

My jd always starts on the first crank, up until 4 days ago anyway. I went to crank it over and it would crank but not start-up, same thing happened 2 more times. The third time it made a horrible screeching noise. There were no codes blinking. After mfing it a few times I raised the hood and removed both side panels. Cranked the engine and it fired right up.

It continued to fire-up normally for the rest of the week-end. Any ideas on what caused the screeching noise?
I don't like when things "fix themselves."

Is there any chance a hydraulic function(joystick or rockshaft lever maybe) was engaged and caused hydraulics to be in relief when cranking? That can cause hard starting and a screeching or hissing noise.

And just for kicks and giggles, check your fan belt just to be sure it's not loose. (You probably already did that, but I'm an expert at forgetting to check the simple stuff)

The screeching could be the alternator or water pump starting to go. Sometimes they might cease slightly then break loose.

Was it turning over at normal speed? How many hours? The no start is the concerning part.

It was not turning over as usual. The tractor has 1600 plus hours. It has always been a easy starting tractor.

I would loosen the belt and check the pump and alt. If it happens again stop and pull the belt and check. If it cranks slow with the belt loose then not them. Could be starter going too but hard to say with limited info.
