JD 4300 HST 4WD
Got a 2002 JD 4300 HST that has around 2000 hours on it (panel died years ago)? This little JD has done lots of hard work over the years. I've had to repair a few items but it's served me pretty well. I bought it used around 10 years ago.

I've actually been starting to shop for a new(er) bigger replacement but wasn't necessarily planning on burying this one just yet.

The past couple days I've had to use to clear the snow on my parking lot. Yesterday noted that when it had to pull/push hard it would occasionally make a terrible grinding sound in the front end. If I let off the power the grind would slow and the front wheels would "catch". It's obviously something is slipping or broken. Within a very brief time (just getting the tractor back to a parking spot) I could tell the issue had worsened. Front wheels had very little pull and would grind anytime they were needed.

Wondering if you all could tell me my likely culprit. The tractor has seen better days. The rear differential lock (the floor pedal that locks the rear end) broke long ago so its been a 3WD tractor for a few years already. Now I'm down to a 1WD. but with the front wheel drive operable it still did everything I needed.

I am thinking that if this is a high dollar repair it might be time to sell it for parts and look for that new tractor. Only so much money I want to pour into a 20 year old tractor.

Thanks for any advice.
