Moved from the JD Ag Tractor forum.

It is time to rebuild the 430 loader on my wife's 4300HST 'garden' tractor. The loader holders are in serious need of repair/replacement. They had been repaired prior to my purchase of the tractor, and now I find cracking of the repair welds. The right side holder is also pretty badly bent.

I really like the cast steel holders on the 300cx. So much so that I purchased a pair for $200. The boomerang links look to be about the same. Looks like I only need the links with the joggle offset from the cyl end to the holder. Interesting that the late model 430 has a similar holder setup to the 300cx. But the links for the 430 are ~$60, while the 300cx links are $28 and $38. The 300cx uses proprietary link pins ($50 ea). I have the tools to fabricate pins and make just about anything (except castings). Can anyone confirm if the links have similar geometry with the only difference being the link pin structure? It is interesting that the w49664 outer link with the offset bore for the pin head is $10 more than the w49716 inner link with straight bored pin holes. Since JD casts the p/n into their castings, doubt these are the same casting with different finish machining.

I purchased the 300cx holders because it would take more time to engineer and fabricate a weldment clone of the 300cx casting than the cost of the ones i purchased. I will add a similar stiffener flange to the 430's plate steel outer boomerang link. I will post pics of the progress once parts arrive.

Its been a while, but got the conversion complete. Still need to update the boomerang links with the offset head pins, but waiting on the 2 x .25 wall DOM to arrive. I will weld a sleeve over the current bushing, and then apply the offset head counterbore.

The cast mid links are thicker than the links on the original holder, so the rod eye tube had to be narrowed to 2 5/8" to restore the alignment. I rebuilt the cylinder glands while i had it apart. Rods have nicks, so i'm considering long term options: making new rods or retrofitting generic cylinders. Fortunately the size is common with 16" stroke and 24" retracted length.

The lower boom bushings are worn to 1.03~1.05", so i opted to keep the timing rod at 1.000". Had to remove the paint from the ID of holder bores to get the timing bar to slide in. Not sure if the 430 link pins were 1", or 25mm like the 300cx. Will make all the retrofit pins 1.00" diameter to keep about 0.01 clearance.

I considered placing m22 flange nuts on the end of the timing bar, but in the end decided it was overkill, and too much trouble. But it sure looked nice.

I would reccomend this upgrade to anyone with the early 430 welded bucket holders.

I said that backwards. The link with the offset pin head bore is $10 LESS than the link with the straight bore.
