JD 425 mower deck not engaging

Hey guys,

I've got a '98 JD 425 which generally has been a good unit, with a rebuilt engine (and nylon cam gear replaced, among others).
The past few times have used it to cut has been sporadic on engaging the mower deck, with me initially thinking it was the PTO switch, now replaced.
Engaging the switch a few times sometimes the deck would engage and others not, so first cleaned the PTO switch then replaced it for good measure.

Now the deck simply isn't engaging at all (it did after new PTO switch replaced - initially) - is there a most likely culprit/<check this> anyone's aware of?

Look for a safety switch tab that's been bent a little too much and now won't engage the micro-switch fully. Mine had a plastic cushion on the tab which flattened down. Then no joy.

For the PTO switch or is there a safety switch somewhere on/collecting to the deck?
I've *got* to get a PDF service/tech manual on this guy...enough differences from my older 316 I just don't know it very well as of yet..

Send a PM to our great member joecdeere and ask if he can send a service tech manual for the 425. He has been very kind and helpful in this regard, if he has such a file.

have you put volt meter or test light on the connector for the electric clutch to see if getting power? Same with PTO switch does it have power? Tried jumping power straight from battery to clutch with engine off. Should hear a solid thud when clutch shifts.
