Can anyone comment on the reliability of the John Deere 4120?
I've looked at orange, red, and green but appear to be zeroing
in on the JD4120 with loader. I like the two pedal hydro better than Kubota.
Question is - new for 29500 or used for 21500? My dad seems to
want a utility size MF2615 which I think is way too much tractor.

I've got a 2011 model ehydro with 400x loader, R4 tires. Delivered in March of last year. I've got about 110 hours on it so far, I've put them all on it.

I haven't had mine long enough to give you a long range judgement; however, it is a little hoss of a tractor and I love it. I have zero complaints.

I use it with a JD MX6 cutter to clip about 7 or 8 acres twice a week.

I've done quite a bit of dirt moving and I grade about 2 tenths of a mile of driveway with a 6' box blade.

I move and stack round bales with it with a Fronteir bale spear on the loader, need a heavy implement on the back for this, but it handles them great.

I've cleared out a low slough with it and moved around a bunch of trees / slash that I had cut.

I've disked quite a bit with a 7' heavy 3pt disk.

So far, I've never grunted it down, it seems to have the right amount of traction for weight, in 2wd it turns and is nimble like a much smaller tractor but it has the power and weight to get things done. Good on fuel, very comfortable operators station and very easy to operate.

I have a 2007 JD4720 which is the same with a bit more hp. Reliabilty is fantastic could not ask for a better machine. Load up the tires. Not knowing what you will be using it for you might look at the 4320/4520/4720 and do a cost benefit analysis. You rarely wish you had less power.

Purchased my 4120 last year and do not have many hours on it. So far I am very pleased with the tractor. Lots of power and stability.

I purchased a new JD4320 in 2006. It has had no problems mechanically with about 600 hours. I agree with some others that a step up to the power of the 4320 or 4520 should be considered. I bushog with a 6' medium weight Woods (1100#) and need all the power I have. The link bars (terminology?) on the back of my tractor were weak, for my bush hog anyway. The dealer upgraded them to 5000 series parts at no charge.

Alabama, I think you would find the 4120 to be an extremely reliable tractor. Don't hear of to many problems with them. Very well made.

Good luck!

The 4000 series tractors are very reliable.

I wouldn't worry none, if you like the tractor and it checks out I'd buy it. I haven't heard of many problems with the 4x20 series since joining up here. Haven't experienced many problems with mine either.

The 4020 series have had very few issues(if any).

I've had my 4300 for 12 years, not a speck of trouble (knock on wood). I've always heard good things about the 4000 series. Get as much HP as your wallet can afford.
