I just bought a 4115 HST. I had a Kioti straight gear. No comparison in operation between the 2 tractors.

With the HST, the JD seems really weak, especially in high range. I have about 10 hours on it now, and it seems to be getting stronger....is it getting broken in, or am I getting used to it, LOL?

It strains in high range to pull the tractor up any inclines....transport only. It has R4s rear filled.
Thanks. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I couldn't say, in your particular case, but I know new users of HST frequently think of that hydro pedal as an accelerator; i.e., push down farther for more power, when the opposite is true. Pushing the pedal down farther will make you go faster, but it's a little bit like going to a higher gear instead of being like giving it more gas. If you leave the throttle in the same place, you actually gain power by easing up on the pedal instead of pushing down harder.

I have had my 4115 for a year. You are right it does seem week in high gear. I really never use high gear so it does not really matter to me much. Low gear is strong, and I am very happy with the tractor. I just wish they could have figured in a cup holder. LOL
I have a FEL and Frontier box blade, plus a set of tire chains. Hope to get a front blade before winter hits.

I "played" with it some more today, High range is just for road transport, I guess.

If that tractor had 3 ranges, it would be perfect... /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I'll probably also just leave it in low most of the time.

While breaking in my new 2210 I felt that it had unlimited power. As I upped the RPM's and increased the workload it seemed to drop it's performance. As I became more aggressive and pushed the machine I think I increased my expectations beyond the machine's ability. I Re-assessed my operations and have dropped back to a more reasonable level of operation. She's doing her job just fine...within her limits.

I think you should drop it off directly at my home so I can run a few tests on it over the next 12 to 18 months. I will provide you with a report containing my detailed findings. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Seriously, I think its a torque curve issue as you have figured out. Don't know what the hills are like that are causing this. Letting up on the hydro will probably reduce the "strain" and you will likely maintain the same speed. I could be all wet here, and in that case, I would check with the people who sold you the tractor in the proper order, i.e. salesperson, manager, technicians, dealer, and hopefully you'll find something out before you have to contact Deere.

I have a 4110 and have experienced the same things you're talking about. On my hilly 5 acres my tractor barely wants to move uphill if I have it set in the high range. The ONLY time I use the high range is if I'm using the road to go from one point on my property to another.
I've talked this over with my dealer and feel confident this is how the gearing is set up. It is pretty strange to find out just how high the high end really is.

I'm gonna check the hydro fluid tomorrow. I didn't get a chance to "play" with it today.. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I unloaded 11 ton of white decorative stone with it yesterday....Its much better. I think it had air in the system.

That tractor has turned work into play!!! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Did I mention I'LL NEVER OWN A STRAIGHT GEAR TRACTOR AGAIN!!!!

It was soo easy to easy the bucket over into the dump trailer, scoop up a load of stone and drive it over to teh bed. We popped the toothbar off in about 5 minutes, then went to work. Didn't even bring a wheelbarrow with us !!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
