jd 400 lawn tractor seems to vapor lock

I have a 400 that after using it for a period, will not restart if i shut it down for a short time. The gas tank cap seems to be ok and the pump is running normal but i have to wait till it cools down to try it and it will fire right up. Any help would be appreciated.

The last thing that vapor locked may have been my brother's 39 ford. Check for a blue snappy spark across the spark plug gap shortly after it quits or a weak yellow spark or none.

Check that the vent in the fuel cap works.
