John Deere 345
I have a 345 with water cooled Kawasaki. This one does not have the dreaded TDM. I can pull the float bowl and spray some carb cleaner up the main jet and it will run fine for anywhere from ten minutes to an hour then die. If I spray fuel into the air intake I can keep it running until I stop. I've replaced the fuel lines from the tank to the pump Removed the fuel cap, replaced the fuel pump and checked flow, rebuilt the carburetor, drained and cleaned the tank, and replaced the fuel filter. I'm at wits end. What have I missed?

Since you have a float bowl I'm taking a wild guess that it has a gasoline engine. Words like "main jet" reinforce that guess. I had a power washer that would only run on full choke. I added Sea Foam - a LOT of Sea Foam to the fuel. I don't think I went to 50-50 with the gasoline but may have. Anyhow, I got it to run on full choke then ran it until it died after a few minutes. I then left it sit over night. I started it the next day and it's been fine and operated normally ever since. I just assumed there must have been a blockage somewhere in the carburetor. I have no idea if that will fix your problem you you'll only lose the price of a can of Sea Foam.

Welcome to the TBN. I take that you've verified fuel pump delivery once it has died? Next would be the bleeds and bowl vent in the venturi to make sure they are open.

In addition to what Tomplum said, if you are still having trouble, if your carb has one of those anti-backfire solenoids, it could be that it is overheating or failing over time as you use your tractor.

When you say you "rebuilt" the carb, did you do a complete disassemble, and clean it?

I thought all JD 345 Kaw engine had the TDM installed. That is the Model 345 before they became GX345's.

It is a fact that the JD345 's have given the owner's more problems than any other John Deere model. Maybe, because more 345 were sold thrice or more than any other models.
It appears it is fuel related, other than the water temp. sensor is bad and sending a signal to the Interlock Circuit Board to shut down the engine.

your needle valve in the carburetor has to be letting in enough fuel for the jets to pick it up, a plastic needle valve, or a leaking float can cause this. also, a bad fuel pump or clogged air vent in the fuel tank cap..

I have 1997 345 with around 550 hours that was having issues starting in sub freezing temps. I ordered a carb rebuild kit from Deere that included a bunch of new parts including plastic bushings for the throttle and choke butterfly valves in the carb. It's been starting great since then. The old plastic bushings I had were starting to stick, but the new parts work great. It's been a year since the carb rebuild with no issues since. As a side note, I'm still on the original TDM. The tractor has been really reliable.

When you rebuilt the carb, did you order the rebuild kit from Deere?

I would look closely at the state of the machine when it dies.

Remove the fuel line at the carb and see if gas flows. Remove the float bowl to see if there is gas in there. Remove the gas cap and listen for a hissing sound of air rushing into the tank. You may find a clue.

Mike.
