I've had my jd300 since 97. Has always worked great. Sometime ago (years) it started leaking trans fluid at the rear hoe controls. No biggy, it still worked fine. Last fall I moved it to where I could use it to move snow. We then got hit by really cold weather here in Pennsylvania. When I started it it made a little noise and then I looked under the tractor to see the cause trans fluid was pouring out of the filter area. (BTW, my trans fluid has been milky for some time (years) leading me to believe that it has water in it.) Thinking it was a seal problem I changed it (and the filter), drained it the best I could and put fresh fluid back in. I'm pretty sure I reset it correctly. When restarting it it did the same thing. It has stayed cold until this week when I started it again. Again, milky trans fluid coming out underneath the tractor around the filter. After opening the hydraulics system valve behind the radiator the leak stopped. It was then put in gear, moved the bucket and hoe and moved it to another location, but it moved really slow (low trans fluid I'm sure). Did the pump freeze with water in the fluid? Why such a major leak around the filter seal? It seems to operate, but I can't have trany fluid leaking everywhere. THanks in advance.
